    Hi Anagoge,
    It’s a bit weird. First of all, I cannot get the date picker to appear in Acrobat (the latest version) whatever I do.
    So I downloaded the free reader, and there, after creating the form with a date field in Acrobat, the date picker appears fine. (But still not in Acrobat!)
    Anyway, the good news is I’ve figured out that there is a bug in FormMaker that is preventing the date picker from appearing. It was also preventing the correct date format to be selected in the properties panel in Acrobat.
    I’ll do my best to release an update today which should fix these issues. Check back here in this thread. I’ll post a message when the update is available.
    Thanks for pointing out this issue!

    Right, that’s what I’m doing. Not sure why it doesn’t show up for me, I’ll need to look into it. Maybe there’s a setting somewhere that switches this off.

    Strangely, it’s not working for me in Acrobat at all. I’ve checked on Windows, with the latest version of Acrobat DC. I’ll have to play around with it some more, or test on a Mac or something.
    If it’s not working with FormMaker, though, I think you’ll need to go for a different option. Perhaps this: https://www.abracadabrapdf.net/utilitaires/utilities-in-english/magicdate-picker/
    It’s free. You’ll need to copy the document javascript that generates the date picker, and figure out out which other scripts to attach to each date field, but it should work.

    Hi,
    (1) There was an issue with the currency formatting. I’ve uploaded a new version which solves a similar issue. Let me know if it helps. It can be downloaded here: https://www.id-extras.com/shopping-cart/my-account/
    (2) Did you get this working? It’s working for me fine with Proxima Nova (the font comes with a Creative Cloud subscription, so I tried it with that). I’m not needing to use the FontList method for it to work, it just works out of the box.

    Regarding the date field, is it working for you if you do it directly in Acrobat? I’m not managing to get a date picker to appear in Acrobat even if I do it manually!

    Do you know how to build a dialog with ScriptUI? (There’s also a simpler way of making dialogs, but I would recommend getting to know ScriptUI.)
    Once you’ve got a working dialog, just stick it in the myOpenFunction and it will pop up whenever a doc is opened.
    (If you just need really simple user input, there’s also the prompt() command.)

    Hi Don,
    Thanks for the file.
    I took a look and was able to reproduce the problem.
    Somehow, the checkbox has some sort of a script attached to it – maybe at one point it was a text frame?
    Anyway, whatever the case, try selecting the checkbox in InDesign. Change it to a “text field” and then back again to a “checkbox”. This will clear out any old scripts that were lingering. Make sure that its name is still “Check1” after you change it back.
    Now export the interactive PDF with FormMaker, open in Acrobat, run FormMaker, and everything should work as expected.
    Let me know if that fixes the issue for you!
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    This seems to work for me, when an existing document is opened. It shows the number of pages in the document. I changed the name of the #targetengine, though, to make it persistent.

    Code:
    #targetengine MyOpenEvent

    app.addEventListener(‘afterOpen’, myOpenFunction);

    function myOpenFunction(myEvent){
    if(myEvent.target instanceof Document){
    alert(myEvent.target.pages.length);
    }
    }

    Does that help?

    Hi Don,
    Obviously FormMaker can do this.
    You must have done something wrong in your file. There’s no point in my creating a test file on my end, since this is something that works.
    So could you send me your file, or at least the page from you file that is causing the issues, and I will take a look?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    Hi Don,
    Your script seems to me to be correct, although I haven’t tried it.
    The error, though, sounds like you have applied a specific format to the checkbox itself.
    In InDesign, with FormMaker open, select the checkbox. Does it have formatting applied to it?

    Correct. All master pages in the original document would travel over to the new document.

    Hi Sruly,
    In your case, I would just not use the character-style feature that comes with Dropword III.
    So switch that off, and then just apply the character styles appropriately, however you’d do it normally in InDesign. You could use nested styles, or GREP styles, or just a regular find/change to apply the styles as needed.
    Once the correct char styles are applied, at that point run Dropword.
    Would that work?

    Hi,
    I think to get this to work you would have to first convert all the text variables in your document to static text. Make a temporary copy of your document, perhaps, convert the variables, and then run Extract Pages on that.
    There is a script floating around that can help converting all variables in all open documents to static text. Haven’t tried it myself, but sounds like it works: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/select-every-variable-text-frame-and-turn-it-to-static/m-p/9657361

    (1) FormMaker does not include a scripting console. The assumed workflow is that you develop all the scripts for your forms in Acrobat. When everything is working and ready, you can then copy the script into your form field in InDesign using FormMaker. FormMaker does have several text-edit areas for each form field in the document where you can paste the scripts you have written.

    (2) Reflow: It would be possible to script this in Acrobat, yes, but again, it depends on your scripting skill.

    Hi,

    The thing about FormMaker is that it doesn’t actually add capabilities that you can’t do in Acrobat. It just brings Acrobat into InDesign, so to speak, so that pretty much everything you can do to an interactive form in Acrobat you can now do in InDesign. The advantage, of course, is that you can create the entire form in InDesign and not have to keep going back to Acrobat to make changes and add interactivity to your form, it can all be done in InDesign.

    Now, to answer you actual question: Essentially, creating form fields on the fly would be something that can be done in Acrobat, and so it can be done with FormMaker in InDesign as well. But, it does take a good knowledge of Acrobat form scripting!
    So if you are able to write such a script in Acrobat – i.e., something that responds to a mouse click on a button and adds extra form fields in predetermined places – then that script could be inserted in InDesign.

    I offer some basic Acroform scripting help for anyone who purchases an annual license for FormMaker, so if you were to do that I could point you in the right direction to put together such a script.
    Otherwise, there are some excellent people on the Adobe Acrobat scripting forum, and they might be able to help as well.

    Hope that answer the question somewhat!
    Thanks,

    Yes. They can be done all in one go, of course. Meaning, launch ID as admin, go through each script adding it to the menu (without restarting ID each time), and then the next time you restart ID they should all be there.

    Hi Clark,
    To get it to work, InDesign needs to be run as an administrator.
    So, you’ll need to close InDesign, if it’s open. Locate the InDesign icon (in the taskbar, or in the Start menu) and right-click on it.
    There should then appear an option “Run as Administrator.” Click on that.
    Now, in the Id-Extras script of your choice, it should be possible to click the About button, check the box that creates the Id-Extras menu, and at this point when you reopen InDesign, the menu should be there!
    A bit of a fiddly business, and I really want to revisit the menu mechanism when I get the chance, but, for now, that’s how it’s done!

    in reply to: Hyperlink Pro not working on new document #6306

    Hi,

    Does the “hyperlink” character style exist in your document?
    Often, especially when importing a Word document I think, you’ll find that there is already a “hyperlink” character style in the document.
    But if, for whatever reason, that character style is not there, simply create one before running Hyperlink Pro. Of course, you don’t have to use any character style at all, but assuming you want the text to look different, e.g. with an underline, or whatever, create a character style, call it anything you like [it doesn’t have to be called “Hyperlink”], and select it from the dropdown menu in Hyperlink Pro.
    Does that help?

    No problem. This is the place to ask the questions…

    I see what you were trying to do, but nope, the GREP query shortcode refers only to what’s in the Find part of the query. It finds what’s in the query, and then sticks that into the file name, omitting, as usual, all illegal characters, so the slashes disappear.

    I can’t think of a simple workaround here, I’m afraid. If you included some hidden text on your pages with the word “half” or “third”, you could pick that up in the file name, I suppose.

    Hi,
    Glad to hear you’re finding Mastermatic useful! It is a great script.
    I’m afraid that for now Mastermatic cannot recognize a text frame that only has the continued part of a table as being not blank.
    So, if all there is in the frame is a continued part of table, Mastermatic sees that frame, wrongly, as empty. If the beginning or the end of the table is there, it would be fine.
    This is based on a bug in InDesign scripting: Asking InDesign how many characters there are in such a frame gives an answer of 0.

    The only workaround I can suggest for now is to apply an object style to those frames (which isn’t so useful, because the table can slip past the frames if you add text before), or possibly to anchor a blank frame to some of the rows in the table with a specific object style. Then set Mastermatic to apply whatever master page you want to the anchored object’s style.
    I think that would work.

    Great, glad it was a simple fix.
    Again, I’m supposing there must be some reason it was on the list of not-recommended filename characters, so keep an eye out for potential issues…

    Hello,
    Glad you’re finding the script useful!
    I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong.
    Extract Pages plays it safe with file names, and removes any characters that could potentially cause problems. The £ is in the list, so it’s being removed.
    I found a list of legal filename characters somewhere on the Internet, and used that to filter out any illegal ones.
    Not much that can be done at this point without modifying the script, I’m afraid. I could do that if it’s very important for you to have the pound sign there, but if anything goes wrong, you’re on your own!
