last Night my friend Tobias Loemke, bought the Linenumbers.
Unfortunately we had trouble to run the script. We have a large scaled booked. The chapters are in separated INDD files. The script doesn’t renumber after numbering on time. I might think it could be be trouble to address about more than 2000 and more lines. I could send you a test file if needed.
Hi Stefan: Just saw this post. Did you figure this out? If you’re still having trouble, feel free to get in touch or send a test file and I’ll be happy to take a look.
Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your comment. It is already possible to do what you ask, except modify the width of the line numbers frame.
(1) Note that the Line Numbers script creates a paragraph style called Line Numbers. You can modify the font and size there as needed. IMPORTANT! The one thing you must not modify in that style is the leading. Doing so will destroy the line numbers’ alignment.
(2) The horizontal position of the numbers can also be adjusted. See the TIPS section above which described 2 ways of doing so.
If the numbers frames are still too narrow after all this, I wonder if they can be widened by changing the Line Numbers object style. In recent versions of InDesign you can set the size of a frame as part of its style.
Does that help?

(1) The style is applied to the text of the line numbers. If you are finding that this is not the case, something is funny, and in that case try deleting all paragraph styles called Line Numbers and run the script again. It will recreate the style and definitely applies it to the numbers.
(2) The TIPS section is above, on this page.
Both my answers relate to a single file.
For InDesign books, it should be possible to sync the paragraph styles to all the files in the book I think. Perhaps also object style, not sure.
Hi Tom,
(1) You’re wrong. The line numbers layer (in the Layers panel) is locked. My guess is that you’re searching for the “ScriptLineNumbers” paragraph style, but are not searching in locked layers, so you’re not finding anything. However, if you unlock the ScriptLineNumbers layer in the Layers panel and click inside one of the number frames, you will see that the ScriptLineNumbers para style has been applied to all of them. Incidentally, if you specifically need a character style applied, you can do that within the paragraph style settings (use a nested style).
(2) I just noticed what page this comment is posted on (I respond to comments directly in the Admin section so I don’t see the page). Please check out the main product page, here: https://www.id-extras.com/products/line-numbers/
Too bad you’re not interested in improving your own program.
That’s a ridiculous comment, and a little bit rude. Line Numbers is currently on version 4.1.1. There have been exactly 40 updates since version 3.2.0, and dozens before that.
If you have a reasonable feature request, I’m open to hearing it. However, what you’re asking for is already built into the script.
Thanks,
Ariel
