Import HTML Pro
Importing web content into InDesign has just become as easy as browsing the web!
Import HTML Pro imports everything – Web pages, WordPress content, news articles, and even local HTML files – directly into InDesign, complete with pictures, paragraph styles, character styles, tables and hyperlinks.
If you’re here, you already know that copy-pasting directly from a website into InDesign just doesn’t work. Everything comes in as plain text. No styles. No pictures. No hyperlinks. To get from there to a usable file is a huge amount of work.
Import HTML Pro shaves hours off production time by turning this into a 1-click process!
The Triumph of Structure over Form
Web pages and page layouts serve different purposes. For real-world publishing, what you probably want is clean, structured, editable InDesign content – not a screenshot of a website.
Exactly for this reason, Import HTML Pro intentionally does not attempt to reproduce, in InDesign, CSS layouts, responsive web design, JavaScript applications, or anything like pixel-perfect webpage appearance.
The goal is usable, structured, content – not the external form of a fluid web page.

Built for Publishing Workflows
Import HTML Pro converts HTML tags into InDesign styles. It applies appropriate paragraph and character styles to headings, captions, lists, local formatting, and every other content-bearing HTML tag. It rebuilds basic tables as native InDesign tables, preserves hyperlinks, and imports images automatically.
At the same time, it removes all purely structural HTML tags.
So whether you work in:
- magazines and newspapers
- educational publishing
- technical documentation
- CMS workflows
- archival material
- book production
you can expect a structured, layout-ready InDesign file in a fraction of the time manual copy-pasting takes, with minimal final cleanup.
Import Local HTML Files
Import HTML Pro can import local HTML files as well – that is, HTML files that exist on your computer, not on the web.
Some websites are password protected and some have complex security mechanisms to block bots. Websites that are protected in this way will block servers from accessing online content.
This is where the local option becomes so powerful. If you need to get such content into InDesign, access the web page in the usual way. Then simply save the page as an HTML file on your computer and import it into InDesign with Import HTML Pro.
This makes it possible to work with:
- password-protected websites
- subscription content
- sites that block automated data retrieval
- and, of course, offline research material that is already saved on your computer as HTML files.
Note: Browsers have various ways of saving web pages. The best option is “Webpage, Complete (*.htm, *.html)”.
Privacy
Import HTML Pro processes all imports on our server. This includes both live web URLs and filenames of local HTML files saved on your computer. Since imports are processed remotely, the user’s Adobe Creative Cloud account ID together with the requested URL or imported HTML filename are logged. The actual imported HTML content is not stored permanently. Server-side processing is necessary because PHP provides far more powerful and reliable HTML processing than is possible directly within InDesign. If a fully private solution is required, a self-hosted version can be made available by deploying the processing framework onto your own servers. Please get in touch for pricing and details.
Fair Use
Because Import HTML Pro uses server resources for every import, licenses are subject to a fair use policy. A standard license includes up to 500 imported URLs or HTML files per month, which should be more than sufficient for most workflows. If you require higher usage limits, please get in touch.
Trial Version
Will Import HTML Pro work with the web pages you need to import? Fill in the form below to download a trial version of Import HTML Pro and find out!
The trial version is identical to the full version except that vowels and digits are scrambled in the imported document. If it works with the trial version, it will work with the full version.
Included in the package is the (optional) sample InDesign template for HTML import that was used to create the screenshot above.
