How It Works

Until now, I’ve just written “chapter”. But what does that mean exactly?

Unjustified uses some clever, real-world rules to decide when a “chapter” begins, and consequently when the previous text frame should be top-aligned.

The main rule, obviously, is that the last frame in a set of threaded frames should be top aligned, and it does that.

But also, if any frame seems to be the beginning of a chapter based on the keep options of the first paragraph in that frame, or based on the presence of a frame break character at the end of the previous frame, the previous frame will also be set to “top align.”

How to Use Unjustify

Simply run the script. There are no options, and no UI!

All frames at the end of threads, chapters, etc. (see above) will be set to top align.

If text reflows, simply rerun Unjustified. It will reset the alignment of any frames it has modified back to full vertical justification if they no longer meet the criteria for being called “end of chapter,” and apply top align to any new frames that need it.

Advanced: Prevent Changes to a Frame

To prevent Unjustified from making any changes to a particular text frame, select the frame, open the “Scripts Label” panel, and type (without the quotes) “ignore”.

If Unjustified sees the word “ignore” in the Scripts Label panel for any text frame, it skips that frame and does not modify its alignment settings.
