Scale to PPI, the InDesign script that resizes one or all graphics in a document to match a target PPI (points per inch) value, has had a massive overhaul, and is now easier to use and more robust than ever!
New Features
- The main new feature is the overhaul of the resizing engine that is at the core of the script. Careful attention to InDesign’s notoriously complex coordinate spaces and resize method ensures perfect resizing to the target PPI. Any non-symmetric cropping of images within their parent container should now be properly preserved, whether the image or its parent is rotated or sheared, stands alone or is anchored to text.
- The number-entry fields in the Scale to PPI window have also been upgraded, and now follow standard InDesign usage: You can use simple maths expressions to add a value to an existing value, enter a value in your preferred units, and use the arrow keys (with or without Shift) to increase or decrease the existing value. Sounds trivial, but entails over 200 lines of code!
- If any images could not be resized (usually because they have no ppi value), a log report is displayed after the script runs with a list of page numbers to help locate them.
Bug Fix
- Some images do not have an effective ppi value. (Vector images obviously don’t, but even bitmaps sometimes don’t. For example, taking a screenshot and pasting it (as opposed to placing it) directly in InDesign will result in a bitmap image that has no effective ppi value.) These would cause Scale to PPI to crash. This issue has now been fixed.
