Translate, an add-on for automatic machine translation of InDesign documents, uses a “pay-as-you-go” system.

(Characters are counted according to the source text. One character corresponds to one Unicode code point. Additionally, because custom tags are required to keep the file structure intact, one character is charged per custom tag, regardless of the tag’s actual length. Translate also provides an option to display the estimated character count and cost before the translation is sent to the server, so you can always know the anticipated cost of a translation in advance. The minimum charge per translation is USD 0.01 (one cent).)
Unlike all the other products on Id-Extras.com, we unfortunately cannot offer any refunds for money spent on translation credits for Translate.
The reason is that the translation company (DeepL) themselves charge us per character translated, so even if something goes wrong, we are still obliged to pay them.
Until you’re familiar with how Translate works, you may initially want to translate small quantities of text at a time (one or two pages). That way, if something goes wrong, the cost is minimal.
If you choose to translate a 1000-page document and the script crashes on the last page, you may lose the entire translation, but the since the translation company has charged us for 999 pages, we cannot offer any refunds, even if the Translate add-on is completely at fault!
